We trust your week has been fantastic! With plenty happening at Book.io headquarters, let’s jump straight into the excitement!
Book.io Updates
- Last Week’s Mints:
- On Monday, we embarked on a Stoic exploration with Dialogues by Seneca, featured in our Monday Meditations Series 2.0. It’s available now at jpg.store.
- Tuesday, we decided to play Cupid for all the single souls by minting the complete Boston Hawks Hockey series, along with the bonus novella The Charmer, into a singular DEA. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary offer; it’s still minting and available for purchase here.
- The bookshelves of Book.io were enriched on Wednesday as we welcomed Jane Austen’s debut with her masterpiece, Emma. This romance was a triple chain mint. Here’s where to pick up yours:
- Cardano — jpg.store
- Eth — OpenSea
- Poly — OpenSea
- The Moby Dick audiobook set sail on Thursday, with our very own Josh steering the ship as Captain Ahab on a series of striking covers. However, you must act fast if you want some of the remaining Captain Josh covers! There are only a few left.
- Does even the word “Anxiety” give you anxiety? Then our Friday mint, Unf*ck Your Brain by Dr. Faith Harper, is a must-read. This book is your roadmap to understanding and healing from traumas, old and new. Start your journey towards better mental health by visiting jpg.store and getting your book today.
- In addition, last Friday, we airdropped Voltaire’s classic Candide for those who took part in the Banned Books Snapshot on Feb. 7th. You can buy one here.
- Minting This Week: Get ready for our groundbreaking “Banned Book-A-Day” series featuring progressive discounts! Mark your calendars: series snapshot on Monday, Feb. 26th, with the airdrop of Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe happening on Tuesday, Feb. 27th. Dive into our Discord for all the details.
- Today, we kicked off the week with an exceptional twin-minting event featuring gems from two distinct series:
- The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling by Henry Fielding: Dive into the scandalous world of Tom Jones as part of our Banned Book-A-Day series. This isn’t just about owning a controversial classic; it’s your key to unlocking a treasure trove of exclusive discounts throughout the week. This title was a hit, selling out instantly, but if you didn’t catch the mint, there’s still a chance to snag it at jpg.store.
- The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius: As part of our revered Monday Meditations 2.0 series, this philosophical treasure offers profound insights into wisdom and fortune. Like its counterpart, it flew off the digital shelves in no time, but don’t despair — if you missed out, you can still acquire this piece of wisdom.
- Tuesday, don’t miss the opportunity to own a piece of history with Tuesday’s minting of Frederick Douglass’s autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave. Through Douglass’s powerful and detailed narration of his journey from bondage to freedom, this book has become an essential read for understanding American history and the fight for justice.
- Wednesday brings us Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. This revolutionary book of poetry brought us iconic lines such as “I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world,” which were featured in the classic movie Dead Poets Society.
- Thursday, we mint The Awakening by Kate Chopin, a novel that was ahead of its time in exploring female independence and sexuality. It initially faced controversy and criticism at its publication for its frank portrayal of a woman’s search for self-awareness and autonomy, but it is now celebrated as a pioneering work of early feminist literature.
- Friday, we are concluding the week with Ulysses by James Joyce, a landmark novel in modernist literature that is often regarded as one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century; join us in minting this monumental work, which continues to challenge, engage, and inspire readers and scholars alike.
- BOOK Stake Pool: We officially launched the BOOK Stake Pool on Valentine’s Day and already have over 20MM ADA delegated! Delegate early for a 20% staking bonus. Get all the details here — https://book.io/stakepool/
- We also announced our partnership with Sundae Labs, which has enabled a portal to claim stake pool rewards.
- Curious about the nitty-gritty? We covered all the details in a recent XSpace. Catch up on the conversation here.
- Credit Cards: We are revving up our credit card payment engine, at least according to a Dad joke that was shared in one of our product meetings — but we are seriously excited to be making significant progress here with Stripe.
- Mobile Magic: We’ve crafted multiple new API endpoints, enriching our mobile apps with loads of new data for the V2 build that’s in full swing. Plus, we’ve rolled out an array of fresh designs for both the Book.io and Stuff.io mobile apps. The excitement is building as we approach the launch!
- $BOOK ERC Token Bridge: We’re happy to report significant progress in this area, with a launch date penciled in behind the scenes. However, we’re holding off on sharing it publicly until we’re certain about the release timeline.
- Token Snapshot & Distribution: If you’re part of the elite #OGBookClub, expect your $BOOK distribution tomorrow, following today’s snapshot. If you haven’t yet… Get a Gute!
- Book.ioCon: Planning for Book.ioCon has us buried in details, but in the best way possible. There’s a hive of activity, with several external teams joining forces to ensure we deliver a fantastic experience. Make sure you’re there to see it all unfold. If you haven’t gotten a ticket yet, get one here.
- BOOK Making Headlines: Over the weekend, Dapp Central unveiled a comprehensive interview with Josh — a must-watch here. Plus, Jason Appleton (Crypto Crow) shared his enthusiasm about bringing his Crypto book project to us in his latest video — it’s exciting news!
- Meme Contest: Our Travis Kelce screaming meme contest was a riot! You’ve got to check out the entries — they’re absolutely hilarious.
- New Editioning Protocol: We have had questions about and want to break some news: you may or may not know that early EVM-based books used a contract from ThirdWeb, which had a potential vulnerability. ThirdWeb is huge and a standard for EVM-based projects, so there has been much discussion about it. While it did not affect book ownership or anyone’s ability to read, certain NFT exchanges won’t allow those assets to resell. So, as we were going to airdrop new books to everyone, we felt like this was a reactionary approach and not within our ethos. Instead, this has allowed us to prioritize and expedite the building of an Editioning Protocol that we have previously mentioned, enabling everyone to upgrade their books and be the mechanism by which authors and publishers can release book upgrades. Unlike licensing, this won’t be forced on anyone — so you will get to elect to keep the original copy or swap it for the updated version. This is something we have wanted to build, specifically for academic publications and textbooks that receive annual updates. We will keep everyone posted on the deployment plan for this.
Minting Tuesday!
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave — Minting on Cardano.
We’re picking up speed, and our pace of development is faster than it’s ever been. Thanks for being part of the Book.io community and helping us build the future of books.
Cheers,
The Book.io Team.
